Before you begin, we must warn you that your "JICS account" has highly confidential personal information in it and should not be shared with anyone.  Please keep your log-in and password in a safe and secure location.
 

FAFSA APPLICATION AND IMPORTANT STUDENT INFO

 
  •  All students applying for FAFSA 22-23 school year - PLEASE use the IRS data Retrieval found on the FAFSA web site

 

  • REMINDER FOR STUDENTS "UPCOMING WINTER QUARTER":
     
    1.)  Late Registration now requires Advisor and Instructor signatures. This means any student wanting to register for a class or classes after "First Day Of Class Spring Quarter: April 3, 2023" now requires the signature of the instructor as well as the students advisor.
     
    2.)  Also, some instructors may not allow students to add their course if they have already missed the first class.  Please make sure students attend class beginning the first day, (if you are Pre-registered and do not attend the first class you may be asked to withdraw or be turned into retention and dropped).
    If you have any questions call Cleo in Enrollment Services Department.
     
     
    3.)  Students wanting to pre-register On-Line must:
          3a) Meet with Advisor;
          3b) Agree with advisor on classes to be taken 
          3c) Check and Make sure all hold flags are clear
          3d) Register on-line and have a great quarter!
     
    Be aware, if you have any holds this will prevent you from seeing certain pieces of information and, in most cases, will prevent you from registering for classes.  Please contact the appropriate office in order to clear up any holds.

PLACEMENT TESTING - TABE ASSESSMENT

TABE needs to be taken BEFORE New Student Orientation and BEFORE you can register for ANY classes.

WHAT IS A TABE ASSESSMENT?

This assessment will place a student in classes that are appropriate for completion in Reading, Math, and Language.

WHERE:  Department of Academic Success

WHEN:  TABE is given EVERY Monday @ 11:30 am & EVERY Wednesday @ 9:00 am. No appointment necessary.
 
WHO:  Who needs to take the TABE Assessment?  New students who have not taken the ACT or transfer students who have less then 30 credits or have not taken transferable Math and English classes.  (FYI:  Some academic advisors may require this Assessment to be taken no matter what credentials you may have.)

Once you have taken the TABE Assessment and have completed the pre-orientation modules, you will be able to register for classes.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: PLEASE READ, EFFECTIVE SINCE: FALL 2011 SKC ADMISSIONS POLICY

 
 
   SALISH KOOTENAI COLLEGE ADMISSIONS POLICY: " EFFECTIVE FALL 2011":
 
Effective Fall 2011

(Board Approved March 2011) 

Summary: This is a two-part Admissions policy approved modification:

Part I: Degree-Seeking students must have a "Completed Admissions File" before registering for classes; and

Part II: "Safety & Security" section for collecting information on students/potential applicants with felonies. This is supplemental to add to the existing change in Housing and Employment where applicants are asked whether they have felonies. 

 Part I

Applying for Admissions for Degree-Seeking Students:

All Degree-Seeking Applicants are required to have a "Completed Admissions File" prior to registering for classes. A "Completed Admissions File" includes all items listed below (#1-9):

1. SKC Admissions Application

2. Proof of submitting a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by providing a copy of your SAR.

3. One of the following three:

     a. Official High School transcript with a graduation date.

     b. Official General Education Certificate (G.E.D) with completion date; or 

     c. Official document verifying Ability to Benefit standard has been met.

4. Official transcript from other institution(s) of higher education (if applicable).

5. Declaration of Major form.

6. Proof of Immunization. Students born before January 1, 1957 must have a T.B. skin test within the last five years. Students born after December 31, 1956 must provide documentation for T.B. Skin test taken within the last five years and two doses of measles vaccine. A health care provider signature is required to verify immunizations.

7. Verification of Residency, if a Montana Resident.

8. Completed Tribal Certification Release form. This is required for Tribal Members of a federally recognized tribe, and first or second-generation descendent of a federally recognize tribe, and first or second-generation descendent of a federally recognized tribe.

9. TABE Assessment completed (transfer students with 30 or more transfer credits are exempt from taking TABE)

Any students intending to enroll in any of the following programs must also complete an additional admissions application for any of the following majors:

  • Highway Construction
  • Social Work
  • Nursing
  • Dental

 

Applying for Admissions for Non-Degree Seeking Students:

All Non-Degree Seeking Applicants are required to complete the "SKC Admissions Application" prior to registering for classes. All other items (items #2 - 8) are also required but can be submitted shortly after registration:

1. SKC Admission Application (required prior to registration)

2. One of the following three:

 Part II

 

New requirement for students and potential applicants with felonies

SKC requires completing the "Saftey and Security" section of the Admissions application, which requests information as to whether the applicant has a felony (Sexual or Violent).

An Affirmative response to any of these questions will not automatically prevent admission, but you will be asked by the Admissions Office to provide additional information. A campus committee to ensure campus safety will review this information. Any falsification or omission of data may result in a denial of admission or dismissal.

 
 

Basic Information about your JICS account:

  • Want to see your current class schedule? Go to Student Schedules portlet. 
  • Select the Course History portlet to see details on all courses you have taken at SKC. 
  • Need your quarterly grade report? Select Grade Report for a given year & term.
  • Select the GPA Projection portlet to estimate what your resultant GPA will be based on the grades you anticipate in current classes. 
  • The Advisor Meetings portlets will show any upcoming meetings you are scheduled to have with your Advisor.  By default it shows your scheduled meetings for the next 7 days.  You can change the date range to see if a meeting is schedule further in the future.
  • You can also see your current Account Balances by selecting the My Account Info link within the Student Accounts section to the left.  You must clear up all outstanding balances before being able to register for future classes.
